Information Regarding Private Appointments

When you first contact us to make your initial appointment, you will be requested to obtain a letter of referral from your GP, Physiotherapist, or another Medical Consultant who has requested you to arrange the appointment.

This is most important as your letter of referral will inform your Consultant about your symptoms, as well as if you are taking any medication or have a drug allergy. Some Medical Insurance Companies will not pay your fees if you have not been referred by a GP or a Medical Consultant.

What we need to know
If you have Medical Insurance, we will need to know your Medical Insurance details. If you are provided with an authorisation number, please inform the receptionist each time your are issued with a new number.

Please inform the Accounts Department if you change from one Medical Insurance Company to another, so that we can keep our records up to date. This also applies to any changes of address or telephone numbers.

If you are responsible for the consultation fees and you have Medical Insurance, please inform us to prevent the invoices being automatically forwarded to your Medical Insurers.

MRI/CT/SPECT Scans, X-Rays, Tests in Medical Physics, Orthotics and Plaster
If your Consultant has recommended any of the above tests, you will be requested to sign a form ensuring you understand the test(s) will be arranged on a 'private basis'.

You will be informed of the cost, and you will need to check with your Medical Insurance Company to ensure that they are willing to meet the charges. Some Insurance Companies will only agree payment of these tests if you require surgery.

Once you have had your test(s), you will need to contact us to arrange a follow-up appointment. It would be most helpful if you could tell the receptionist you are returning for your results, stating the type of test(s), the date of the test(s) and where it was carried out.

Uninsured Patients
A fixed price package can be arranged for uninsured patients. A fixed price package includes the cost of your surgery, anaethetist, hospital charges and one follow-up consultation.

Complaints

Non-Clinical Complaints
If you have a non-clinical complaint, please contact Mrs Elaine Smith, Practice Manager. Complaints should be made within 28 days of the incident.

Clinical Complaints
These should be directed to the Consultant concerned within six months, or within six months of becoming aware of any suspected effects of the incident.
